Rodrigo Ferreira (pronounced fa-HAY-ta) was born in Brazil in the town of Ribeirão Preto, state of São Paulo.   The eldest of two sons, Rod learned much of his woodworking skills from his father, Mardem.     

Mardem Ferreira restored and refinished antique furniture for customers.  He would occasionally go into the surrounding countryside and small towns “furniture hunting” for pieces to sell.   Rod and his younger brother, Demerval, went with their dad on many furniture hunts.   A creative woodworker, Mardem would sometimes take apart old furniture and make it into something different.    

At 13 Rod joined his father refinishing furniture.    Even though his father stopped working with furniture for awhile, Rod carried on the tradition and opened his own business refinishing furniture at the age of 18. 

In 1998 Rod married Tânia Combs, a childhood friend and daughter of American missionaries.  Rod first came to the U.S. for Tânia’s family reunion in 1999. Later that year, they moved to the U.S. and opened “Antique Renovation” in Norman, Oklahoma. 

Between restoration projects, Rod designed and built furniture using old architectural elements; doors, windows, ceiling tin, porch columns, etc.   His first creation was a bench converted from an antique headboard, then a hutch using old doors and windows.  With each new piece Rod developed his own unique style and finishing techniques.     

Due to the success of his original creations, antique restoration eventually gave way to all custom orders.    The business moved to Moore, Oklahoma in 2005 as “Wood Creations by Rod”.     

Builders eventually took notice of Rod’s unique creations.   In 2006 they began using Rod’s custom furniture in showcase homes.   And now, entire homes feature Rod’s built-in cabinetry in kitchens, baths, offices, and living rooms.
